Forging elements of death, black, thrash, grind, and hardcore into a chaotic beast that is technically proficient and uniquely accessible. Their visceral and intense live performances have earned them a reputation and dedicated following in the Pacific Northwest and have shared the stage with noteworthy acts such as Gorguts, Ulcerate, Intronaut, Vektor, and Kowloon Walled City. In their eight years as a band, Burials have evolved from the metallic hardcore roots of their self-titled first album to the epic black metal influenced sound of their second effort, “The Tide”. On this split, they offer their latest evolution as a band in a densely packed and focused effort incorporating solid production value from guitarist/engineer, Fester (who has produced all of the bands previous albums), and their strongest, most relentless songwriting yet. This split is eight tracks of totally awesome. Both bands shred through four songs that weave together elements of virtually every sub-genre of metal into complex and progressive music that is surprisingly catchy and accessible; especially considering the crazy riffage and constant time signature fluctuations. Beyond being catchy and technically proficient, the song writing is top notch and shows both bands at the very top of their game. This is also a concept album, with the lyrics of every song being inspired by landscapes both real and fictitious. This recording has been a long time coming and is successful on many levels.
